Over many years, the British Tabloids and the tabloid TV press (including the likes of Sir Trevor McDonald - who should have known better - shame on your Trevor) have tried to give the Costas a bad name. It's much more glamourous to send reporters and TV crews on a 'jolly' to the sun, than to some of the crime ridden area of the British Isles, where they would be much less likely to find anyone to speak directly to camera with, and in some cases, unlikely to make it in-and-out of the area in safety themselves!
So, they come to the sunshine in search of a story and, especially in the case of Sir Trevor, the press have been guilty of manipulating the story to say what they want it to say, rather than have nothing to report. Remember that 'Bad News' is 'Good News' for the gutter press, and so it's much easy to find something negative to say than to come all of this way and find out that you've made a mistake, been misinformed, and then on your return to London, try explaining to your boss and the account's manager that there was not really a story there after all!
Crime can happen anywhere. However, the more prepared you are and on your toes the more you put the percentages in your favour that it won't happen to you.
This information has recently been seen in many Publications.
I would advise one and all to take note of this and the phone number 900 555 111.
Note: that three of the seven have already been arrested.
Some residents in Torrevieja may remember one David Sharples (pictured below), who moved to Catral, Costa Blanca, from Wales, UK, joined the Barbershop Harmonisers and Club Torrevieja Classics and Specialists Cars and has since been exposed as a Con Artist; a confidence trickster, posing as a car salesman, taking deposits for cars that did not exist, and then leaving the area owing many 'friends' and clients out of pocket, without any sight of the car that he said he had for sale!
He has continued to do this in the UK and allegedly has been held in custody in Carlisle, due to his fraud tricks in the UK.
Thus, we should never think 'It could NEVER happen to me!'
